An excellent and even inspiring video. I liked the wirecast aspect. It was excellently and thoughtfully prepared by someone who evidently loves the subject material. Thank you very much!
This is an amazing perspective on change in the “third world”. These gapminder videos are inspirational. They give me a lot of hope for future.
Yes I believe everything is possible in Bangladesh. Bangladesh itself is a miracle. During this economic recession, Bangladesh’s economy is getting stronger. Capital market is also booming. It has achieved its independence in nine months using bamboo stick against machine gun. Therefore, it is really a miracle. If you want to do anything miracle then come and visit Bangladesh

Yes,
Bangladesh is a miracle, it is a country with no apperent potential, if anyone looks at the facts about the country s/he might get an extreamly pessimistic picture of the country. But still the country is thiriving on every aspect. It is such a country where elegent economic theory of demand and supply work in a reverse way. if you want to see this for yourself come visit Bangladesh.
does anyone know what the answer is? whats the reason for the miracle????
Miracle? So what? Why not try to explain! Lower birth rates and lower child mortality mean less pain and suffering for the women. That is excellent!
But the lower birth rate is compensated by the lower child mortality, so the population is still growing.
Together with a growing economy this is still increasing the pressure upon the environment.
The space and the resources are still finite, in Bangladesh and everywhere.
As long as we believe growth is good, humanity is lost.
We’re traveling towards total depletion and final resource wars with an ever higher speed, because of growth.
Dear Gapminder
I’m sure you’re aware of the missing link inhere: food production.
Overpopulation is only a fact if we lag behind in food production. Will you be doing a video about the potential for increased agricultural output? And compare the result with the expected growth in world population.
I realize that one could also include parameters such as CO2, pollution, global warming, sustainability but those terms are so extremely political – it’s probably better to leave them out of the equation.
But as I said – that is actually the missing link inhere…
