The family lives in Bangladesh. S is 50 years old and is a rice and jute farmer. His wife L is 45 years old and they have 2 children. They live in a 2-bedroom house, where they have been living for 13 years. The best thing about their house is that it is in close proximity to their relatives, but the disadvantage is that it is vulnerable to floods. Their favorite item in the house is the sitting bench. The next big thing they plan on spending is repairs to the roof. Their dream is to buy a cow to provide milk for themselves.

The family lives in Bangladesh. S is 50 years old and is a rice and jute farmer. His wife L is 45 years old and is a housewife. They live with their sons N, 28 years old, who is unemployed, and M, 14 years old, who is a student. S works 60 hours/week. The family lives in a two-bedroom home, which they own. They’ve been living there for the past 13 years. They also own agricultural land. They like the house because it is close to their family but they don’t like the fact that the area is prone to flooding. Their favorite item in the house is their sitting bench. The house has no electricity and the toilet is outside the house but it's not shared with other households. Nearly all of the family income is spent on buying food. They have to buy 80% of their food and produce the other 20% themselves. Water is available outside the home on their plot but it's not safe to drink. They use wood as fuel for their stove. Every week, L spends 7 hours collecting wood and 30 more hours doing housework. On top of his main job, S also spends an additional 60 hours a week on home agricultural activities. The family hardly saves any money, since most of it is spent on food. They’ve never been on vacation but they’ve been as far as Karachi in Pakistan. The next thing they plan to spend money on is repairs to their roof. They hope that one day they will be able to fulfill their dream of buying a milk cow.
