The family lives in a one-room home and have been here for 14 years. The house was built by their family members; they do not pay rent for the structure, but do pay the land’s rent. The house does not have electricity, toilet facilities, or running water. Collecting water takes 2 hours a day and is not always safe to drink. The family grows 30% of their food and the rest 70% comes from gifts. They use wood for cooking, so M spends 20 hours a week collecting firewood. The family does not save money. Their favorite item in the house are the dishes. They are planning to buy a chair and hope one day to be able to fulfill their dream of buying a house.
