The family lives in Myanmar. D is 50 years old and she works as a tailor. She lives with her 3 daughters in a rented 1-room house. The family likes the house because of its central location but they aren’t happy with the noisy environment and mosquito infestation. Their favorite item is the sewing machine. The next thing they plan on buying is fabric to sew clothes. Their dream is to one day buy their own property.

The family lives in Myanmar. D is 50 years old and she works as a seamstress. She lives with her three daughters; Y, 30 years old, and T, 20 years old, are also seamstresses, and H, 4 years old, is disabled. Together, the family works for a total of 168 hours/week. The family lives in a rented single-room house. They've been living here for the past 2 years. They like that the house is in a central location but they dislike that it’s noisy and attracts a lot of mosquitoes. The house has electricity, which fails several times a week, and they have a toilet outside their house which is shared with 6 other households. The family has to buy all their food supplies, which cost them about 80% of their income. They don’t have a water source and so they have to buy it which cost them up to 10% of their income. They use electricity for cooking in the kitchen. D and her daughters spend an extra 25 hours a week doing housework. The family hardly saves any money because most of it is spent on food. They sometimes go on vacation and they’ve gone as far as Moulmein, Myanmar, on one of their trips. The next thing they plan to buy is more fabric to make clothes. They hope that one day they will be able to fulfill their dream of buying a property.
