The house has electricity, which fails several times a week, and they have a toilet outside their house which is shared with 6 other households. The family has to buy all their food supplies, which cost them about 80% of their income. They don’t have a water source and so they have to buy it which cost them up to 10% of their income. They use electricity for cooking in the kitchen. D and her daughters spend an extra 25 hours a week doing housework. The family hardly saves any money because most of it is spent on food. They sometimes go on vacation and they’ve gone as far as Moulmein, Myanmar, on one of their trips. The next thing they plan to buy is more fabric to make clothes. They hope that one day they will be able to fulfill their dream of buying a property.
