The family lives in Rwanda. J is 60 years old and he is a farmer. His wife M is 52 years old and she is also a farmer. They live with their 6 children in a 5-room house and have been living there for 35 years. Their next big plan is to buy building materials for their house, and their dream is to buy a few cows someday.

The family lives in Rwanda. J is 60 years old and he is a farmer but in the last 12 months, he’s been working in construction, building roads. His wife M is 52 years old and she is a farmer. They live with their 3 sons; B, 25 years old, who is a farmer, N, 13 years old, and O, 5 years old and their 3 daughters; Y, 27 years old, U, 19 years old, who are farmers, and G, 8 years old. Together, the family works for a total of 196 hours/week. The family lives in a 5-room house, which they own and got built with the help of relatives and friends. They’ve been living there for the past 35 years. The house has no electricity or water and the toilet is outside on their plot. They also own agricultural land. The family only has to buy 30% of their food, which cost them about 30% of their income, and produce the rest 70% of the food supplies themselves. They use wood for cooking in the kitchen. Every week, M and her daughters spend more than 10 hours collecting water and the whole family spends 21 hours collecting wood. The family is saving money. They’ve never been on vacation and the furthest they have ever been was Kibuye, Rwanda. The next big thing they plan to buy is building materials for their house. They hope that one day they will be able to fulfill their dream of buying a few cows.
