The family lives in Nepal. T is 50 years old and lives with his 53-year-old wife M, 3 daughters, and a granddaughter. The family lives in a 2-bedroom house, which is rent free, and has been their residence for 19 years. Their favorite item in the house is a water jug. The next thing they plan on buying is food supplies.

The family lives in Nepal. T is 50 years old and he is unemployed. His wife M is 53 years old and she is a waitress. They live with their three daughters G, 38 years old, J, 33 years old, and N, 32 years old, and their granddaughter, S, 21 years old, who are all unemployed. Together, the couple works for a total of 170 hours/week. The family lives in a rent-free 2-bedroom house. They’ve been living here for the past 19 years. The house has electricity, which fails several times a week, and the toilet is outside the home and shared with another family. The family has to buy 95% of their food, while they produce the remaining 5% themselves. Food supplies cost them about 90% of their income. They use wood for cooking in the kitchen. Every week, the family spends 3 hours collecting water, 3 hours collecting wood, one hour on home agricultural activities and 14 hours doing housework. The family hardly saves any money because most of it is spent on buying food supplies. The last time they had a vacation was several years ago and they’ve gone as far as Delhi in India on one of their trips. Their favorite item in the house is a water jug. The next thing they plan to buy is more food.
