The family lives in Rwanda. E is 53 years old and is a farmer. His wife H is 43 years old and she is also a farmer. They live with their 5 children in a 5-room house. They own the house and have been living there for 7 years. Their next big plan is to buy some materials to build their roof. They dream of one day being able to buy a new beautiful house.

The family lives in Rwanda. E is 53 years old and is a farmer but in the last 12 months, he’s been working in construction on a water dam. His wife H is 43 years old and she is a farmer. They live with their 2 sons B, 23 years old, who is a farmer, and N, 14 years old, and their 2 daughters D, 17 years old, who is also a farmer, and U, 7 years old. Their niece S, 4 years old, also lives with them. Together, the couple works for a total of 72 hours/week. The family lives in a 5-room house, which they built, and own. They’ve been living there for the past 7 years. The house has no electricity or running water and the toilet is outside but not shared with other households. They also own some agricultural land. The family only has to buy 50% of their food, which cost them about 80% of their income, and produce the rest 50% themselves. They use wood for cooking in the kitchen. Every week, the family spends 7 hours collecting water, 7 hours collecting wood and E and H also spends an extra 15 hours a week doing unpaid jobs. The family is saving money. They’ve never been on vacation and the furthest they have ever been was Nyamata, Rwanda. The next big thing they plan to buy is roofing materials. They hope that one day they will be able to fulfill their dream of buying a new house.
