The family has to buy only 9% of its food, which costs about 70% of their income, and produce the rest 90% themselves and receive the remaining 1% as gifts. They use wood for cooking in the kitchen. They collect water, which is not safe to drink, from a source nearby, which takes 30 minutes to collect and come back. Every week, E spends 7 hours collecting water and 42 hours doing housework.
