Kunskapspriset (The Knowledge Prize) a yearly reward from The Swedish National Encyclopedia (NE) has been given to Hans Rosling, Founder and director of Gapminder. The decision was announced at a ceremony last evening in Stockholm, where Hans Rosling was awarded the price in strong competition. The jury had the following motivation:

"[Hans Rosling] in his role as Professor in Global Health at Karolinska Institute, in an extremely engaged, pedagogic and inspiring way, spreads knowledge about the status of Global Health. In his many performances and not least by the uniquely pedagogic creation Gapminder, he demonstrates how statistics can be refined into knowledge and understanding. "
